England Town and Mengguan

The area in which the school is situated is a newly developed small self-contained town. With a shopping area which has a number of restaurants along with a couple of convenient stores for your everyday needs. There is a clubhouse which has a gym and swimming pool and mahjong rooms! England town is situated in a rural area and to get into Mengguan is a 40 minute walk or a short bus ride from the village bus station. Getting to Guiyang or Huaxi is either a bus ride (2 rmb) or a taxi ride (30 rmb to Huaxi or 80 rmb to Guiyang).

Guiyang.

A large city which has recently completed a “Bus Rapid Transport (BRT)” which circles the city within its own dedicated bus lane. Guiyang is also due to have a subway(metro) in the very near future. The downside to this development is a dusty environment within the city and some traffic congestion issues at key times. The city is a bustling hub, and caters for all people. There is an expat community so it is easy to make new friends and become involved within Guiyang and its outlying areas.

Most days it is easy to find street traders selling fresh fruit and vegetables. In most townships the weekends are the busiest times, and as they say, the early bird catches the worm, so get there early!

Street chilies!

Huaxi wetland park and river. For those who want to leave the bustle and noise of city life. Huaxi is only a 8km bus or taxi ride away from the school, it boasts both a generous amount of shops and restaurants, but also a wetland park and river walk. With a mixture of both sculptured gardens and natural features the area is one of outstanding beauty. With the ability to hire bicycles and pathways for the hikers, it is well worth spending a day in nature. The Karst is a natural limestone mountain range, which is predominant throughout south-west China. The school nestles by the side of the local Karst. Qiangling park in Guiyang is a place to visit and an opportunity to either walk up the mountain to Hongfu temple, or catch the cable car to the top. Once at the top the views of Guiyang are breathtaking. The temple indicates the engineering and ingenuity of the Chinese people who built Hongfu temple on top of the Karst. The park is also home to a pack of monkeys, who will be happy for you to feed them. Locals use the park for exercise and picnics, you will not believe such nature can exist in the city of Guiyang.
